When is the last time you traveled across the country to spend a weekend meeting with elected officials, holding decision-makers accountable, and making new friends that will last a lifetime?

Yes, it's time to prepare for National People's Action: May 19-21 in Washington, D.C.

What some IPA leaders have to say about NPA:

Rev Dotts

Rev. Dotts chairing a
workshop at NPA.

Rev. Charlotte Dotts:
"I have been to NPA three times.  Join us this year to change the world and change you!  Attending NPA changed the future plans of two of my college-aged grandchildren.  Both are more civically engaged and one is now studying to be an organizer."

Ben Bernanke NPA 2009

On Robert's very first trip to NPA (2009), he chaired a
meeting with Federal Reserve Chair, Ben Bernanke.
(Robert is 3rd from left; Bernanke is 4th from left.)

Rev. Robert Bushey:
I am excited about attending my fourth NPA experience in May 2012 and I hope you will be there too! NPA has given me the opportunity to act on my faith in God's justice. I have grown as a Christian, a citizen, a leader and a minister through my NPA trips. At NPA I have been empowered to speak power to power to our National leaders, to be at the table where decisions are made, and to hold our elected leaders accountable for their decisions. And, I've had fun doing it! Each year when I plan my vacation days, NPA is the first thing on my calendar. I am praying you will put NPA 2012 on your calendar, today!"

 Jenn
NPA Jenn 2010 Carrillo- This will be my third time attending NPA and I couldn't be more excited about it.  Being a part of NPA has changed my life in so many ways.  After going the first time (2010) and participating in the K-Street shut-down, I felt empowered like never before and I decided to gear my life towards organizing.  I encourage you to join us at NPA this year so you too can be transformed by the experience of witnessing people power making change first hand.  It's truly astounding.

Barnes at 2011 NPA

Rev. Barnes speaking at the 2011 NPA Plenary

Rev. Dr. Eugene Barnes:  "As the President of National People's Action, I want you to come to NPA because it will be the place where convictions and decisions are made to empower you to speak and act on your own behalf and provide you the resources to acquire new skills, knowledge, and responsibilities for changing your community."

NPA 2012 Put People First
What is NPA?  NPA is the annual conference of National People's Action.  Think of an IPA event on steroids.  Imagine 1000 people from across the country--from all walks of life, young and old, rich and poor, multiple faith traditions, and many different ethnic backgrounds--all coming together in our nation's Capitol.  What do they have in common?  They are all committed to living out a call to actively participate in our democracy. And they like to have fun. Does this sound like you?  Then you'll want to join us.

This year is the 40th anniversary of NPA.  IPA's Director, Don Carlson, has attended over 30 NPAs.  Yes, it's that fun!

What is on the agenda for this year's NPA?

  • Training on non-violent and creative direct action
  • Workshops led by community leaders on a host of issues (holding banks accountable, making Wall Street pay to solve the revenue crisis, affordable housing, green jobs, youth leadership, education, criminal justice reform, and many more)
  • Victory celebrations
  • Accountability sessions
  • Meetings with legislators and decision-makers
  • And actions that bring the issues of the day to the doorsteps and offices of the 1%

Details:

U.S. Capitol
Dates of NPA:  Saturday, May 19 through Monday, May 21, 2012

April 2, 2012.  Call now for more information or to make reservations.

Location:
Hyatt Capitol Hill Hotel, Washington D.C. (3 blocks from Capitol)

Cost:
Transportation and food-- We are trying something new this year.  Instead of asking leaders to pay half of the total cost, we are simply asking you to arrange for and pay your own transportation and food.  IPA will pick up the cost of conference registration and two nights lodging (Saturday and Sunday) at the Hyatt Capitol Hill hotel (2/room).  If you want to go out early or stay after the conference for sightseeing in our nation's Capitol, you will need to make those arrangements on your own.

NPA 2008

When the foreclosure crisis hit, NPA was there, demanding justice to homeowners across America. Here we are in 2008, 700 leaders strong outside the home of Ben Bernanke, demanding he meet with us to address the foreclosure crisis.  He did.  Not once but three times--every year since 2008.  Can you find Rev. Barnes in this picture?  Rev. Barnes has been so active in NPA throughout IPA's history that he is now serving as the President of NPA's Board of Director's.  This is an honor for both IPA and Rev. Barnes as NPA has organizational members in 15 states who represent hundreds of thousands of families across the country.
